Brief Notes on Taoism

Alright, this will be like breaking down a few aphorisms, but here I'll try something fitting to the nature of Taoism. I'll try to write something short and clear, direct, effortless.

What matters is not remaining effortless, but being able to show effortless effort. Effortless effort is like a flame that burns spontaneously. All that's needed is to nurture it.

Taoism evokes spirituality, appears like an unattainable life teaching. It seems like an attempt at spiritual discipline. In reality, it is undisciplined, right beside us, already beside us.

It appears like a great spiritual training; its only emphasis is being sincere, living in the moment.

If we wanted to express it through music, people would think of traditional Chinese music. However, Punk or Grunge music would be more reasonable to describe its nature.

If we wanted to show it through colors, white - the symbol of goodness and purity - would first come to mind. Yet it is pitch black, because black is the color of colorlessness.

Things created through constant, great effort are not lasting. I cannot respect people who have expended great efforts, because their efforts sway like a dandelion in the first wind; when needed, those efforts might not be repeatable. I respect tasks accomplished without effort, because this resembles a talent that can be used again and again until the end of life.

No additional effort is needed to turn a small sapling into a great plane tree; it's enough just to plant it.

Sometimes there's no need to produce fire - it rises spontaneously from between the rocks.
